For Gabriella

love you bear

At the Gina K. Release party, our In the Spotlight Designer, Melissa Shultz came up with a great challenge – to Celebrate the Children in our lives.  Her challenge is to make a card for a child in your life to tell them you love them.  You have until tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m. CST to upload your entry.

This challenge was easy for me since last Tuesday, I came back from a visit to CA for our nephew’s 1st birthday and I have lots of photos to share (you’ll have to wait until Weds to see the Little Buckaroo, though).  This post is all about his big sister, Gabriella.  She loves her Auntie Donna, and loves to get mail from Auntie Donna so it was perfect timing to get a card made for her so I can slip in a few wallet-sized photos from our trip and tell her I love her & miss her!

I combined Jumping for Joy, Sporty Accessories and Ribbon Stripes for this cute Bear Love U card, along with some Lime Rickey dp from my StampTV kit this month!  The ribbon is from Taylored Expressions (pumpkin twill).  I’m sure she will get a big smile on her face when she opens this card!!

gift from Carolina

Here are  a few photos from my trip I promised.  I was so glad to see Carolina again on this trip and meet her DH Andy.  She as so kind to bring along a birthday present for Gabby, which was last month and she was not able to attend the party with her nephew Gaven.  Gabby was so disappointment as her baby brother opened all his loot until she realized she had presents to open!   The first was the most adorable pink & brown sweets dress – I adore the seersucker feel of both dresses as well as the ice cream cone, cupcakes and cherries on this first one!  She was quick to try on the dresses & model her jewelry for us!  She is such a girlie girl and we all soak it in!

sweet

Here is the halter-style dress!  She put this on over her jeans and looked adorable, it scares me some of the poses she struck, but made us all crack up because she loves to take pictures!!

funny

She was showing off all the jewelry Carolina her, I love this picture!!  She ended up falling asleep at the dinner table while me, her mommy and Nina Andrea played the 90’s board game past midnight!!  It was so cute, one minute she had her arms folded at the table while she was participating in the game and then got super quiet, the next thing we see is her head on her arms and she was fast asleep.  The girl had a LONG day playing in the bounce house & swing set with her cousins & friends, riding a pony, taking pictures, eating, visiting and swinging at the pinata!  What was even more funny is that the next morning she walked into the living room still wearing her dress & jeans and made sure to put her white flip flops on!  She cracked us up!!

auntie loves gabby

I love this picture; it’s one of the last few we took together - I don’t have enough of those, since I’m usually the one taking the pictures! Well, I was taking the picture here too – the first few came out all right, it’s always tricky trying to not look goofy when you take a picture of yourself with someone else, usually the heads are way too close and someone may end up out of the picture.  With this one, my left arm out was cut off and that was o.k. but for the fact that I was able to capture me kissing her and  the sweet look on her face is priceless!  I think this is my favorite picture we’ve ever taken together!  It’s worth a thousand words and they all say LOVE.

Gina K. Release Challenge Fun

masculine card

Here are some cards I created for challenges posted at the party last night.  It was so fun – at one point we had 345 people there!  A ton of those were lurkers, I could tell but we had a lot of new people to the party and that’s always fun!!  Theresa’s challenge is to make a masculine card, which is getting easier with the new release of Special Fathers illustrated by Nina Brackett.  I chose to make a living room space with the clock on the wall, the digital papers to coordinate with the set and a framed art print for the wall.  My frame is made using the Woodgraining technique, it’s so easy & fun to see the magic happen with the swipe of a few stamp pads!!  The floor was made using the Summer Fabrics digital papers, which are freebie downloads at StampTV!

ATC

My next card is an ATC (Artist Trading Card) for Cat’s Challenge!  These are fun to make (2 1/2 x 3 1/2 size).  I used Sporty Accessories, illustrated by Melanie Muenchinger to be used with a ton of her other sets like Just So Sporty which I used here (‘you’re a’ for the pennant sentiment) and her Tees sets (and more, you’ll soon see!) I love the high top sneakers in this set!  I also used the new Ribbon Stripes for the side stars.  The ribbon & brads are in the new Eclectic Summer StampTV kit

ATC turned card

Here is my full size card I put together, that is for the CAS15 Challenge on SCS – Black & White & one Bold Bright I chose Rocket Red by Gina K Designs {a great blue-red, which I LOVE more than and orange-red} which has a fun striped texture to it!

If you have a chance to play this weekend for a chance to win a free stamp set valued at $24.95 or less, you need to upload your creation by Monday evening 7:00 p.m. CST.

I have one more challenge card to share with you tomorrow, but that deserves a post all its own because it involves sharing my sweet, adorable niece Gabby with you!!

Gina K. Designs Release Day Sneak Peek!!

summer fun sparkle

Well, I’m back in town now!  We had one of our most memorable, fun trip out to visit family in CA-will have to share some pictures & some memories another time.  Right now, I need to work on sharing a sneak peek of 2 sets Gina K. will release tonight!

I am sharing a card I made using 2 sets today!  The first set is Ribbon Stripes, a collection of fun designs you can stamp directly on 5/8” or smaller ribbon or stamp directly on your projects for a fun background design!  That is what I did here with the checkered ribbon.  I stamped them in real red & brilliant blue on Gina K. Pure Luxury layering weight cardstock and adhered to my card base.  I cut them out first so I could line them up perfectly.

The second set is Lazy Days of Summer, our new One Free with 3 set!  Purchase any 3 sets and you get this free!  Next month, it will be available for purchase separately.  I wanted to use my new Spellbinders Nestability long deckle rectangles so I grabbed 3 fun summertime images from the set to showcase, isn’t it fun going to the beach & eating ice cream?  Well, I eat ice cream all year, not just during the summer!  After I colored the images with my peerless watercolors, I added lots of sparkle with my copic atyou spica pens – detail below:

summer fun sparkle close up

Lastly, I added the Summer Fun sentiment from the set inking them up with markers and layering the atyou spica pens over the letters and some stripes with my scor-pal.

2 Sketches 4 You: Starving Artistamps Sponsor

DonnaBaker2Sketch

Happy Memorial Day Y’all!  I’m still in Sunny California and will be back home tomorrow afternoon – I’m sure it’s going to be difficult for me to leave our family, it always is…but as the kids get older, even more so.  Today I have a 2Sketches4You sketch which is sponsored by Starving Artistamps!  For my card, I used the new Doodlefactory Collection ‘Super Parents’ & Super-Dad sentiment from Sentiments, Oh Baby!  so I can get my BIL’s card done & ready to go next month for Father’s Day!

I’m so proud of my sister & brother-in-law who tag team to be at home with their kids.  My sister goes to work at 6:00 a.m. and Tom works until 10:00 p.m. so the better part of the day he is Super-Dad and the afternoon/evening my sister is Super-Mom!  It’s brought them together as a team and there is a great sense of security & stability for the kids who always have one of them with them at all times…bonus time with both on the weekends!

I used my DCWV Green {recycled} Stack for kudos with their recycling efforts!  HA

SAS2sketches for you

Here is the 2S4Y sketch for you to play along this week – be sure to check out the blog for additional details I don’t have since I am pre-scheduling my post before I head out on vacation. Also be sure to check out the Starving Artistamps Gallery to check out all the cards from the Design Team!

Thanks for visiting & be back soon!

TECC69: Sick Cuppie

TECC68 sick cuppie

Happy Cupcake Friday, y’all!  When you see this, I will be in *CA getting ready to celebrate our nephew’s 1st birthday-Cowboy theme!  I’ll be sure to share some pictures when I return!  This was a different sketch for me with the corner treatment but I really like how it turned out!  I wanted to use my sick cuppie in the bed (like that he is slightly ‘blue’?) and add the nurse tending to him for a fun get well card!  I used supplies from the May 20th key ingredients subscription – I love the earthy colors in this one!!  I love paper-piecing and it was so fun to make the bed linens match the card (I wish mine looked like this!)

May 20th Key Ingredients Subscription from Taylored Expressions

I’m excited to share this month’s key ingredient subscription supplies with you, along with an exclusive Baker’s Dozen project I made!  You know that’s one of the many benefits to joining this key ingredients subscription, each month you and here they are in a nutshell (you can visit Taylor’s blog for the complete rundown:

Tons of creativity in a box!
Key Ingredients savings

Baker’s Dozen Samples

For my project this month, Taylor challenged us to make a set of all occasion  note cards that will be ready in a flash when needed with no sentiment on the front, additionally, to incorporate some stitching (faux or real).  I made my note cards for my sister as a thank you for when we stay with her (funny, I made my project in March for her too-remember the flower chipboard album from my trip in October?).  She loves my cards and it’s been a while since I gave her some.  I packaged them in a clear box so you can see the card on the back side & stamped envelope on the front (wanted the tag to stand out).

one sheet
I first set out to find some stamps that would not compete with the great patterns in this collection of patterned papers so I got out my Botanical Dreams set by Gina K. Designs.  I used some retired SU! colors True Thyme & Cranberry Crisp and stamped one sheet of Choice Buttercream cardstock with it.  Then I cut them down for the fronts.  I made 8 note cards but had a few sheets left over.

supplies

Here’s a picture of all my supplies: pads, markers, sponges, scor-bug for my faux stitching (have you used that yet? it’s so quick & fun to use!), ribbons, embellishments and cardstock bases.

cards
My faux stitching was done on my stamped panels and I adhered various pattern papers on the fronts along with different embellishments (in which I barely made a dent into---I could have easily made double the cards just adding a few more sheets of cardstock!)

cards2
It was so fun mixing & matching all the patterned paper & embellishments!  These cards are my favorites.

cards3
Thanks for sticking with me with this LONG post!

SC226: Get Well Cuppie for Brianna

SC226 get well Brianna

Last week, Betty sent an email to her friends at StampTV asking us to pray for her granddaughter Brianna who had an accident at her church playground and her pinky finger had to be re-attached at the ER.  I’m sure it was so scary but Brianna has been a trooper and they got good news today that considering her age, it may grow out & be o.k.!

I prayed for her & asked Betty if I could have her address to send a get well card – I thought Get Well Cuppie from Doctor’s Orders would be PERFECT to cheer her up!  I was so pleased to get a note from Betty that said “she was thrilled and it is living in a special place on a shelf in her room!!

I used the sketch challenge on SCS {SC226} for my card using the Father’s Day Key Ingredients designer paper & button.  I colored cuppie with prismacolor pencils blended with odorless mineral spirits.

I was so glad to help bring a little sunshine to Brianna’s day!

TECC68: The Grillmaster!

TECC68 all hail

Happy Friday, y’all!  The weeks are going kind of fast, huh?  Just a few more days and I head to CA for my nephew’s first birthday – I am getting excited!!  I flipped Taylor’s Cupcake Friday sketch this week to accommodate the grill & sentiment on my card today.  I just love this new set Boys Will be Boys in the Whimsical Wishes line of stamps available at Taylored Expressions!  It’s nice to have good masculine images at your disposal for male card giving occasions!  I used the March 20th key ingredients subscription elements for my card (except the screw brads which can be found in the Father’s Day Key ingredients).  I used copics to color my images (great way to get realistic looking flames)

Baby on the way challenge fun!

STVSC12 sundress

Here is the card I made for my friend Vanessa, who is expecting her 2nd baby { girl this time} next month.  Melanie and Hannah planned a surprise girl’s night/shower for her – saying it was only the 3 of them for dinner but they invited more friends to join in the fun!  I’m so glad I was one of them – it was a great time.  I bought the little outfit shown below because I knew I could make a card to match using Gina K.’s Bold Flowers {I’m not the only one who does that, right?!} I even made a ribbon ruffle around the middle like the outfit using Wee Tees

STVSC12

Here is my sketch, where you can play along for the next week at StampTV and have a chance to win a free set valued at $24.95 or less.

And lastly – here are a few pics from the girl’s night/shower I got permission from Vanessa to share:

CAS14: Rock ‘n Roll Blooms & Mother’s Day

CAS14 rock and roll blooms

I think my favorite challenge on SCS is Monday’s Clean and Simple Challenge – these cards are no fuss, quick and fun!!  This week we are to use the Rock ‘n Roll technique {CAS14}.  I stamped my medium-sized blooms from Bold Flowers by Gina K (the 1st StampTV kit) in Pink Pirouette ink then rocked & rolled the outside of the stamp in Riding Hood Red ink.  I did the same with the small bloom in Baja Breeze and Pacific Point ink.  I used Jen Del Muro’s Sketch for You to Try from Saturday for my layout.

gift from above

Here is the card I made for my oldest sister, Val for Mother’s Day– my personal cheerleader during my time of unemployment; she checks on me nearly daily inquiring about my progress but not to the point that it bothers me.  It’s certainly in a good way because I was in a slump the past few weeks.  I am getting my butt in gear this week and getting some things done I have been putting off.  I thank all my friends who have been so supportive, thoughtful and encouraging to me (you know who you are!) I have some more RAKS to share I’ve received since the last time I shared (that’s on my To Do List).

I used the bloom from Friendship’s Garden, greeting from Notes to Mom (one free with 3) and the Softly Spring digital papers all by Gina K. (most recent release).  The black checkered ribbon is from the StampTV embellishment kit

easter

I am so proud of my sister & brother-in-law and how well they are caring for, teaching, disciplining and loving their children; they are so happy.  I know our mom & dad would have been so proud of them too {Mother’s Day & Father’s Day – even after all these years they have been dead, is still so hard for me}.   I wish we had them around longer than we did!  This is their Easter picture together, I can’t believe only 8 more days and I will be able to love on these sweet kids!!

TECC67: Birthday Balloon Cuppie

TECC67 birthday cuppie

Happy Cupcake Friday y’all!  Hope you’ve had a great week!  For today’s sketch, I used the new Doctor’s Orders set by Taylored Expressions that was released on Tuesday!  Normally this cuppie has the words get well in his front balloon, but I wanted to make this a birthday cuppie so I omitted the words.  I used the Mother’s Day key ingredients for my card and I paper-pieced the cuppie with it too.

Gina K. News & CAS13 again 4-yr old boy style!

CAS13 4th bday

I just had to make another card using this week’s Clean and Simple Challenge sketch – since I adore the tiny images Melanie illustrated in her new set Wee Tees!  I personalized this card using Just so Sporty for a 4 yr-old boy’s birthday party (with one of our little cousins in mind since he’ll be turning 4 in the fall)- card done!   I used my scor-pal for some interest on the plain green galore cardbase.

Smoochy & Sketchy Blooms

STVSC11 smooch

My first card is for the sketch challenge at StampTV this week by Jessica.  I used my Comfort & Peace stamp set and Basic Grey Ambrosia papers.  I used the black magic technique stamping with white craft ink on black cardstock die cut with my labels 4 nestability and using my Koh-i-Noor pencils

STVSC11 close up

Here is a close-up of my Smooch product on the flowers, I used Pumpkin and Green Apple, it has a very fine tip, reminiscent of nail polish, and easy to use.

mytimess32 blooms

Here’s a Mother’s Day card I made using Lauren’s mytimess32 from this Saturday with Gina K Designs A Year of Flowers paired with a sentiment from Notes to Mom (this month’s one free with 3 set).  The dp I used on this card is SU! Parisian Breeze, so the colors of my blooms are creamy caramel, close to cocoa and Baja Breeze.  I finished my card with  chocolate pearls.

Hope you have a great day!!

CAS13: Shopping Cuppie

CAS13 sketch

This week’s Clean and Simple challenge {CAS13} is a sketch and here is my card!  I used my Downtown Diva set by Stamp a Sweet Impression available at Taylored Expressions since some of my images in the set hadn’t been inked up yet.  Not sure why, but this layout & images screamed bright colors to me so I used Tempting Turquoise & Pink Passion with black accents for my card and finished it off with the funniest shopping sentiment, “people who may money can’t buy happiness don’t know where to shop”-HA!

I guess I should admit I am not a real girly shopper in the traditional sense.  I don’t necessarily have to have the latest & greatest and I am definitely not a name brand type of gal.  I usually do my shopping when it’s absolutely necessary or I am super stressed out (beats eating?!) not so sure about that but what helps me control my spending is challenging myself to keep my $ as long as I can to earn interest & be happy with what I have!  I am blessed to be on some awesome design teams that send me free product and that helps me to save $ I would normally want to spend on the product I love!  Taylored Expressions is one of those for sure!  Did you check out the new release stuff yesterday?  Oh my – great stuff EVERY 5th of the month!!

Taylored Expressions Release Day!

sniffles

Here’s another card I made using the new Stamp a Sweet Impression set Doctor’s Orders!  I love this tissue box (and what Sankari did with hers here – putting real tissue in it, cute!)  I used the Valentine’s key ingredients from Taylor’s store and put the trio of tissue boxes on top of my new Spellbinders Labels 4 dies which I adore! The tissues were colored with peerless watercolors and the Vibrant teal background piece was stamped with several sentiments from the set on the diagonal.  After using my ticket corner punch on the layers, I put black pearls in the corners directly on my Classic red card base.  Lastly, do you like how I did the black die layer?  I got the tip from fellow design team member, Denise – check it out here!

Have fun shopping – but before you go, check out the fabulous creations the Baker’s Design Team will have for you today:

Precious Cargo in the City

precious cargo

As promised, I had another card to share using the new Doodlefactory Collection Oh, Baby! and Sentiments Baby!  I had fun combining pretty red-haired mama Heidi with cute buggy riding Izzy out in the rooftops backdrop.  So fun!  I stamped them on Gina K pure luxury layering weight cardstock and colored them with peerless watercolors.  Heidi’s dress and Izzy’s buggy are paper-pieced with Basic Grey Urban Prairie paper pad.

Reminder – if you’d like to get any Doodlefactory or  Starving Artistamps set, you can get them 10% off with the discount code SAVETENDB at checkout at the store!  Have fun!!

Taylored Expressions Sneak Peek Day 2

fathers day hammer

I may not be the only stamper out there with a shortage of masculine stamps, even though my card giving occasions for men are really few and far between. However, with this new Whimsical Wishes set Boys will be Boys, I will have lot of choices for making great masculine cards!

On my card, I used the tool belt for my focal image and the new
Father’s Day Key Ingredients, a great selection of Prism cardstock colors: Intense Orange, Tawny Medium, Intense Teal, Island Mist, Light Blush and Red Dark. The patterned paper is Cosmo Cricket Lil' Man and the neutral cardstock is Choice Buttercream, in addition to some great coordinating ribbon, 20 screw brads, and a package of coordinating buttons.

Two things I used on my card that are not included in the key ingredients but is available in the Boys will be Boys Bundle, is the metal sheet behind my focal image and the fun little silver hammer charm (I cut off the hole that was on the top since I wasn’t using it to hang on anything) and the metal sheet was 'hammered' with the screws for visual interest!

I used the SCS sketch for my card from two weeks ago {SC225} which is great to showcase the great pattern papers in this kit!

Here is info on the special bundle this month - all this great stamping stuff will be available for purchase tomorrow May 5th at 10:00 a.m. CST at Taylored Expressions!

Weekend Sketch Irises

wsc79 purple lilies

Here are a few cards I made for Beate’s weekend sketch challenge courtesy of Jenn Balcer {WSC79}.  I used the new set Notes to Mom and StampTV Floral Frenzy kit set Elegant Flowers both by Gina K Designs.  I wanted to make a few more Mother’s Day cards before next weekend arrives (I actually sold them both to some ladies we hung out with for the fight last night).  Basic Grey dp on this card is Eva and the Irises were colored with peerless watercolors.

Basic Grey dp used on this card with the yellow Irises is Urban Prairie.

And here is another card I made using Taylor’s sketch from Friday {TECC66} using the Gina K Designs Tropical FlowersNote: Taylor changed the deadline for your submissions for Cupcake Friday! You'll have a week to make a card and link your creation on her blog in order to be eligible for the Featured Cupcake Sampler - have them linked by Friday, May 8th at 10am CST for consideration for the Featured Cupcake Sampler.

Stamp a Sweet Impression: Sneak Peek Day 1

feel better kit

I’m so excited to share a peek of Taylored Expressions’ new release Cuppie Get Well set called Doctor’s Orders.  It is such a fun set; versatile to use as get well for children and adults!! For my card & get well emergency kit I used the cuppie nurse, lozenges and ‘feel better’ sentiment.

feel better inside

It’s always good to have an emergency kit just in case you’re not at home to have stuff you may need such as kleenex, hand sanitizing wipes, throat drops, tylenol, allergy medicine and my personal favorite Goldenseal/Echinacea herbs.  I fit all this in the altoid tin covered with pink flamingo dp by SU!

Be sure to check out all the sneak peeks by the Baker’s Dozen to see all their awesome creations and be back tomorrow for a fabulous Father’s Day set sneak peek!
